Bullying is a real problem that leaves permanent scars. Bullying comes in all different shapes and sizes. It can be physical, verbal, emotional and online. Some forms of bullying gets so bad that it should be treated in legal court and yet many turn a blind eye thinking it’s all part of growing up.
Did you know that over 70% of students report that bullying is a problem at their school?
Here’s just a few examples that have made the news:
- Kid with back brace – Tattoo Artist Stepped In
- Transgender Kid – “We are not a threat.”
- Viral Video of Fight – High School
I personally received death and rape threats in high-school and when I opened up to a teacher asking for help, I was told to buck up and deal with my own problems or I wouldn’t be a looser all my life. I was at the end of my rope by the time I had the courage to approach an adult and wasn’t thinking I could talk to someone else. In that moment, this teacher represented all adults in my head. I was alone. No one would help me.
I wouldn’t wish that situation on anyone else and wouldn’t want anyone to say the same thing to my kids should they ever require help.
We can’t be bystanders. Together we can help end bullying.
