Federal Minister of Women’s Affairs Maryam Monsef is in New York today for the opening of the 61st session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. Anyone else is finding it strange or ironic that United Nations Commission on the Status of Women is happening in the United States considering how the condition of women has dropped enormously since Trump has become president?
Maryam Monself will be accompanied by a delegation of elected officials and representatives of non-governmental organisations. Among them are the provincial ministers.
The theme of this session will be the financial independence of women and their place in the labour market.
I find myself nervous about the outcome of this discussion considering the upheaval on women’s rights that has been happening this past year.
