I agree with the idea of salary transparency and this includes amounts of vacation and any other bonuses that an employee gets. I believe that the only thing gained by secrecy is inequalities, favouritism and discrimination.
We have to break the taboo that says we shouldn’t talk about money. We need to disrupt the entrenched culture of secrecy and don’t-ask-don’t-tell which contributes to salary discrimination.
If you are worried that knowing salary information will foster workplace envy and discontent that means that there is unfairness in the way salary is distributed. There will always be people who are unhappy, but if we are transparent and salary differences are explainable, then there shouldn’t be any problem.
