Why Activism?

Why Activism?

For those who have the privilege to ignore what’s happening in our world because your safety isn’t at stake, you could hide away and ignore what is going on in the world and what is at stakes. It a much less stressful and easier path to take, but by turning a blind eye you are letting injustice take more and more space in the world. For those affected, it’s their lives, their well-being, their safety, their livelihood, their family, their everyday. They can’t ignore it, because it’s all around them.

“Activism is something that no one can fake. You get angry. You cry. But you never throw in your towel, because that anger is what is propelling you to further action.” – Leymah Gbowee, Nobel Peace Laureate and Oxfam Ambassador

tolerance-743053_1920Progress can be fragile. History has shown again and again that evil will indeed triumph when good people do nothing. Personally, I could no longer be counted as merely an observer to the unrelenting cruelty and meanness.

It is my belief that each and every voice is important, that each one of us has it in them to be heroes. Each and every one of us has the world in our hands.

“Change only happens when ordinary people get involved, get engaged, and come together to demand it.” – President Barack Obama.

human-rights-1898841_1280There is power when we unite our individual voices and stand together for the dignity and equality of all peoples, regardless of gender, races and economic class. There is power when individuals stand together for the safety and health of our planet and fight for future generations. There is a strength when diverse communities stand together.

I want to know that I have made a difference, to help the generations that will walk this earth after we are long gone have a chance at a better life. I will leave my mark, do my part, take responsibility for my time upon the earth. I was here and I made sure my time mattered. I won’t let corruption have a louder voice. I will rise up and speak up.

“If you don’t have time for what matters, stop doing things that don’t.” – Courtney Carver.

I am thrilled and humbled by the energy and passion of growing movements.
