Religion and Law Must Stay Separate
The law in the province of Quebec does not have to take into account the religious or cultural peculiarities of everyone. The law is blind. The law does not care about the colour of your skin, your sex, your sexual orientation, your religion and your origins. We are all united and equal before the law.
The law is clear, no one has the right to abuse a child.
There has been talk in the province of Quebec of creating different child protection services for different religious or cultural group. I find that discussion extremely dangerous. The safety of a child is currently considered to be compromised when the child is in a situation of neglect, psychological abuse, sexual abuse or physical abuse. There is no cultural trait or religious belief that can justify or explain the abuse of a child and they shouldn’t be, so the idea of creating different child protection service for different religious or cultural groups need to end now.
