I have Graves’ Disease. It’s an autoimmune illness. This means that my immune system attacks healthy cells.

I want to make one thing clear, having an incurable autoimmune illness isn’t my fault. I didn’t do anything that cause this to happen. I wasn’t curse or did something so horrible that would cause karma to hit with an incurable disease.

No one is sure what causes autoimmune diseases. They do tend to run in families. It tends to affect women, particularly African-American, Hispanic-American, and Native-American women. I am a woman and Métis.

stretching-498256_1920When you start asking me about my diet or/and exercise regime, you are insinuating that it may be somehow my fault and if I simply fixed my lifestyle I would be cured.

I have never taken drugs, never had any addictions, never smoked. I didn’t abuse my body in any way that would cause illness to grow.

I know you want to help, but unfortunately that is not possible. Every single day is a battle to improve my health, but no matter how much my health improves, the illness will always be there, relapses and flares are always possible.
