Quebec to tax online services

If you live in the province of Quebec, you should be aware of the following tax additions that will soon dig into your already overtaxed pockets. I guess the $4 billion in tax increases is still not enough. How to make the poorer poorer…

The Quebec government intends to impose the QST not only on Netflix, but on all suppliers of foreign online goods and services as early as 2018.

Finance Minister Carlos Leitao sent a letter to his federal counterpart on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, informing him that Quebec will soon be asking foreign suppliers selling goods and services to Quebec consumers to collect and remit QST.  According to his letter, the QST must adapt to the realities of the 21st century to keep up with the “fairness and legitimacy of our tax system”.

I personally want to know exactly where this money is going and how it is being spent. I hear some people say it’s only fair that everyone pays taxes, but it’s really only the population of Quebec that’s being tax to this level and are we truly better off? I personally don’t see it.

If that’s not enough, the Quebec government is putting pressure on the federal government to do the same by imposing GST on foreign suppliers. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau already indicated that he wasn’t going to tax Netflix or other foreign online suppliers.

I love hearing from you!
