February 6th is International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation.
The practice violates women’s rights to health, security and physical integrity. It also violates their right to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and their right to life when the procedure results in death.
Female genital mutilation can cause severe bleeding and problems urinating, and later cysts, infections, as well as complications in childbirth and increased risk of newborn deaths.
Most female genital mutilation is done on minors.
The idea of taking away a women’s right to pleasure is extremely sexist and abusive.
