What equality means to me:
- Everyone deserves to be treated with respect (regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.);
- Employment equity (everyone has the right to be treated fairly in workplaces free from discrimination);
- Pay equity;
- No person should have an advantage over another;
I treat everyone I meet equally and with respect. I don’t judge or make assumptions based people’s appearance. Everyone has a story and our outside shell doesn’t tell it all. I am only interested only in people’s true character, in their actions more than their words.
It begins as small as someone believing that they are more valuable because of their job title or/and salary. I’ve have stepped in when people disrespect the receptionist because they consider that job at the bottom of the food chain. Reception is the image of the company, the first impression that clients get, they are traffic controllers. It is a vital role. Everyone is valuable.
Unfortunately, women and other marginalized groups still have put up with less pay, lewd comments and other abuses. This shouldn’t be acceptable in our modern world.
I want a better world for my children and I will keep fighting for them.
