You look fine

Most people believe that you can’t be in pain or discomfort if you managed to dress nicely and did your hair. You look fine, so you must be feeling fine.

You look fine - TopicsWithPassion.blogJust because I am laughing and joking around with my friends does not mean that I am well. Just because I am sick does not mean that I cannot be happy.

People with chronic pain or fibromyalgia do things at pain levels others wouldn’t even consider moving at. We do it because, if we don’t, we wouldn’t have a life. This does not mean that we’re having a good day. It just means that we managed to be stronger for that part of the day.

It’s time to retire the “You look fine” rhetoric.

  1. LOVE this. Thank you for sharing. I have fibromyalgia and there are people in my life who believe I’m just being lazy. I try to not let it get to me but it definitely hurts sometimes.

    1. It’s difficult for people to understand and explaining it to them often feels like you are talking to a wall. It can indeed be discouraging, which is why I value my interaction with other people who have fibromyalgia. I feel less alone. Thank you for your kind words.

I love hearing from you!
