Punishing chronic illness sufferers is not okay

The management team at my current workplace made me feel very small. It is becoming clear to me that they view people with chronic illness has being unreliable individual who need attitude correction.

What management is doing isn’t helping to “correct my attitude”. I don’t have a bad attitude. I am sick. No matter how much you punish me, I will still need to take time off for doctor appointments and for health reasons. All you are doing is killing my self esteem by calling me unreliable.

Let’s get one thing clear, I’m not unreliable, my health is.

I didn’t ask to get sick, but it happened. It’s not my fault. My ‘tired’ isn’t a choice. Chronic illness ‘tired’ never really goes away.

I’m starting to believe that we live in a society so obsessed with perfection that it is easier to shun what is considered imperfect rather than accept it.

I want to send a shout out to all people who suffer from chronic illnesses and are being compared to able bodies workers for attendance and productivity.
