Is the contraceptive pill safe?

Is the contraceptive pill safe to take? The many side effects of the contraceptive pill contribute to the fall of its popularity in Quebec. More and more women are choosing another method of contraception.

Some of the side effects include:

  • Abundant menstruation;
  • Depression;
  • Embolism;
  • Fatigue;
  • Hair Loss;
  • Infections;
  • Loss of sexual drive;
  • Migraines;
  • Muscle cramps;
  • Numbness of the face;
  • Rise of milk;

As you get older, the symptoms can become worse and more restrictive.

Many women are surprise when they find out that they aren’t the only one complaining about these side effect.  The problem is that very often, doctors do not listen to them. Doctors tend to minimize what they say. They answer that it’s in their head. But it’s wrong. If a woman says she’s not doing well, it’s true. Women who report secondary effects from taking the pill have such a feeling of helplessness in front of these companies and the medical profession who say that the statistics are not alarming.

Many stay on the pill regardless of the side effect. It seems like it’s still the woman’s responsibility to protect herself and part of that is that we have to suffer the effects.

We must inform our young women so that they are more alert and believe them when they say something is wrong.
