World Diabetes Day

November 16th is World Diabetes Day.

In my family we don’t say if you get diabetes, but when you get diabetes. That tells you about the odds of getting diabetes when you have my gene pool. My kid’s father is also diabetic type 1. Diabetes is the norm in my family and my surroundings. They do say that diabetes affect First Nations people more than certain other due to the lack of exposure to sugar prior to the arrival of Europeans.

There’s a few things that I would like to share.

“Type 1 diabetes is a disease in which the pancreas does not produce any insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps your body to control the level of glucose (sugar) in your blood.” – Diabetes Canada
