I found that people have a lot of trouble accepting that you have an incurable disease. This can be very frustrating when you have to keep explaining that you will have this illness for the rest of your life. I’ve tried to understand why it’s so difficult to accept.
The main reasons why people have difficulty accepting that you have an incurable disease are:
I believe the first reason is that they care about you and don’t want to accept that you will be in pain for the rest of your life. I know this is the issue with my mother who is forever trying to come up with miracle cures that go nowhere.
The second reason is the idea that they could get a disease for which there is no cure, for which there is no real curable treatment and there is no explanation is very scary. I believe one of the reasons why people have so much trouble believing that you have one of these incurable diseases is that they want to believe they’re safe and we as people suffering from this are evidence that this can happen.
