Being genetically related doesn’t make you family. So what makes a family? Love, support, trust, sacrifice, honesty, protection, acceptance, security, compromise, gratitude, respect and loyalty are what makes a family.
There are so many examples of different kinds of families and that is part of what make this world so great.
My children call my best friend since high school their aunt. She isn’t blood, but after more than two decades of love, support, trust, sacrifice, honesty, protection, acceptance, security, compromise, gratitude, respect and loyalty, she is our family.
My own little tribe is reconstructed. My husband has two children from a previous union and I have one from a previous union. Together, we make one big happy family.
It can be easy to take our loved ones for granted. That is why it’s good to be reminded that when we see something beautiful in someone, we should tell them. Don’t assume that they already know and don’t need to hear it out loud. It may take a second to say, but for them it could last a lifetime.
