I have written plenty of articles about global warming and pollution, etc. I think it is equally important to talk about countries and people who are making a difference. Here are a few Mother Earth Protectors worth giving positive attention to:
The Kingdom of Denmark, a Scandinavian country in Europe, has managed cut their food waste by 25% in just 5 years making it one of the leading countries. The government of Denmark has credited a woman named Selina Juul for the initiative. Instead of throwing food away, restaurants and supermarkets are selling leftovers 30% to 50% cheaper. It worked better than they expected.
“Food waste is the lack of respect for our nature, for our society, for the people who produce the food, for the animals, and the lack of respect for our time and your money.” – Selina Juul.
Norway is a model to follow in the transition to the electric car. Thanks to a generous system of tax incentives and benefits on polluting vehicles, the electric car market is exploding in the country.
It hurts me to say, that my home, Quebec, has stopped researching the Hydro Quebec wheel engine to finance oil companies in Gaspésie and Anticosti, as well as associate the entire country with oil sands.
Native Americans have done a lot of work lately to protect nature, water, etc.
We must protect the forests for our children, grandchildren and children yet to be born. We must protect the forests for those who can’t speak for themselves such as the birds, animals, fish and trees. – Qwatsinas (Hereditary Chief Edward Moody), Nuxalk Nation
Each human being living on the earth is responsible for doing good and taking care of the planet. We must work together in this common goal.
“We are all brothers and sisters on this Earth.” – Navajo Elder
I am perfectly okay with hunting to feed one’s family. I was thought how to hunt, how to respect animal life, how to give thanks for the meat, how to prepare it, how to use every piece of an animal so that there is no waste. Ethical hunters are aware and careful about wildlife conservation.
I do have a problem with trophy hunting. Hunting for recreation and not food has been around centuries. I personally do not think Hunting shouldn’t be a hobby. No one should feel proud when taking a life. I find it incredibly disrespectful to place the head of a deer on a wall as a trophy or memorial.
Trophy hunting occurs widely within Canada. Every year, hundreds of different species all over the world are slain by trophy hunters. In Canada, hunting tour companies offer clients the opportunity to kill everything from deer and black bears to moose and polar bears.
When hunting an animal for pleasure with a guide that makes certain that every client ends up with a least one kill, it isn’t even sport or skills.
Every year trophy hunting kills between 300 and 400 grizzlies. Black bear populations are shrinking, yet the government of British Columbia continues to allow this animal to be hunted and killed for sport. These bears are being pushed to the brink of extinction.
Polar Bears are classified as a threatened species due to global warming, yet they are still being hunted for sport. Canada is the only country that still allows Polar Bear hunting by non-natives and non-citizens.
All animals are an integral part of the ecosystems where they live.
The case against trophy hunting is strong and the movement is growing. Here is how you can help:
“Some day the earth will weep, she will beg for her life, she will cry with tears of blood. You will make a choice, if you will help her or let her die, and when she dies, you too will die.” – John Hollow Horn, Oglala Lakota
Everything on this earth is sacred. Everything on this earth is connected. Are you here to improve or damage it? Look at the facts below and you will see that we are already on the brink of disaster as it is. Lets take care of our link with life.
Water is life. We are 97% water and just a slight drop in that amount and we can die.
Dramatic changes have already been recorded around the Great Salt Lake area. Iran’s Lake Urmia actually changed colour caused by heat, dryness and evaporated water. Already in some areas, dirty water is stunting the growth of children.
Scientists are warning us that the warming of the ocean could make seafood too toxic to eat. The levels of acid have already started to affect the seafood industry and the economy.
There are solutions available, these need to be made available to everyone and should inspire more solutions to come.
For the last 3 years, scientists have recorded the planet’s hottest year records. While some are still debating if climate change even exist, it is already affecting ecosystems, communities and the economy. Every single one of us have noticed the rise in weather related catastrophes all over the world and in our own backyard.
Avalanche kills 7 students and injures more than 40 people in Japan
Floods causes spontaneous waterfalls to hit roads in Australia.
Climate change affect water and water is life. It is the responsibility of every human being on this planet to protect our source of life. Our survival depends on it. We are made 97% of water and just a slight drop in that amount and we can die. Dramatic changes have already been recorded around the Great Salt Lake area. Iran’s Lake Urmia actually changed colour caused by heat, dryness and evaporated water. Already in some areas dirty water is stunting the growth of children.
Scientist are warning us that the warming of the ocean could make seafood too toxic to eat. The levels of acid has already started to affect the seafood industry and the economy.
Bumblebees have been declared endangered in the United States after their population went down by 85%. You can’t tell me such a drop in population is normal.
Canada’s forests are among the most vulnerable to climate changes in the world. We have seen how global changes has already put the polar bears in danger of extinction and cause harm to Inuit population. We already know that the ice is melting and that it’s already changed polar bears behaviour as they are desperately trying to survive.
I don’t understand how some are still doubtful about climate change.
“Over 97% of the scientific community is in complete agreement that we are contributing to climate change. To deny that means that you are not a part of the modern world. You don’t believe in modern science or facts. We can’t argue it anymore, we don’t have enough time.” – Leonardo Dicaprio
This is not a problem that is easily or quickly solved and it cannot be done with half solutions. We need to listen to these scientist and find solutions that we will use and stop destroying the planet for profit. Right now, there is no sustainability.
Just wanted to add that the following response to climate warming (which I was given when discussing this subject) isn’t an excuse to continue contributing to the destruction of our planet: “China plays a bigger role in climate change than we do. Just look at images of pollution smog. Just look at the stats on disease and lack of sanitation. Our pipelines cars and consumerism not the problem, China is the problem.”
That’s simplifying an issue to the point of racism. Not to mention that China has invested over $361 billion into renewable energy by 2020 while countries like Canada and the United States are signing deals for dirty oil pipelines that already had so many devastating spills.
In addition, pointing fingers at another country won’t solve the problems we are creating in our own country. The pipelines have already spilled twice and created an enormous imprint on the destruction of our Canadian land. Industries getting exemptions on pollution is also a great contributor. Let’s not hoodwink ourselves by saying “but he started it.”
Water is precious. Water is life. We are 97% water and just a slight drop in that amount and we can die. It is the responsibility of every human being on this planet to protect our source of life.
Pollution is one of the most significant threats to aquatic ecosystems in Canada and everywhere else in the world. Dramatic changes have already been recorded around the Great Salt Lake area. Iran’s Lake Urmia actually changed colour caused by heat, dryness and evaporated water. That’s not a good sign. Already, in some areas, dirty water is stunting the growth of children. Human life is affected by water quality in every country. We need to step up and force a change for the better. We can’t stand by and observe the planet get worst. Our lives depend on it.
Global warming and the melting of icecaps could change the Atlantic Meridional current. This will lead to chillier weather in the northern and western Europe, make the water level rise and cause more hurricanes. We are already seeing this trend growing. It will also shift tropical rain belts, causing major disruptions to regional climate in Central and South America.
Scientist are warning us that the warming of the ocean could make seafood too toxic to eat. The levels of acid in seafood has already started to affect the seafood industry and therefore the economy.
In short global warming could cause terrible and devastating weather change that will be felt in all regions of the world. Humans might have separated the world in countries, but natures is a whole. What happens at what end of the planet affects what happens at the other end.
Politician are loosing time, saying that we have to weight the economy versus taking care of the environment. We really can’t be battling about which is more important capitalism or environment. We don’t have much time left to save the environment and if we fail, capitalism isn’t going to matter anyway.
Never throw rubbish away on the ground. If there is no trash cans around, please take it home and put it in your trash can. Do not throw medicines down the sink drain or the toilet. Check with your local authorities if there is a chemical disposal plan for local residents.
